Fats have gotten a bad rap in the past, with many people believing that they should be avoided or minimized in the diet. 


However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Fats are an essential macronutrient that our bodies need in order to function properly. Here is my top 3 reasons why Fats are essential.

  • First and foremost, fats are a vital source of energy. When we consume fats, they are broken down and used by the body as fuel. In fact, fats are the most efficient source of energy, providing more than double the amount of energy per gram compared to carbohydrates and proteins. This is why athletes and endurance runners often consume fats as part of their training regimen.

  • Fats are also important for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. These vitamins are essential for maintaining good health, and without enough fat in the diet, they cannot be properly absorbed.

  • In addition to their role in energy production and vitamin absorption, fats also play a crucial role in brain health. The brain is made up of nearly 60% fat, and certain types of fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, are important for brain development and function.


Studies have shown that people who consume adequate amounts of omega-3s may have a lower risk of cognitive decline and brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.

It's important to note that not all fats are created equal. So do not be taking this the wrong way.


It's important to choose healthy fats, such as those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil, rather than unhealthy fats like trans fats and saturated fats. These unhealthy fats have been linked to a higher risk of heart disease and other health problems.


In conclusion, fats are an essential macronutrient that play a vital role in energy production, vitamin absorption, and brain health. While it's important to choose healthy fats, it's also important not to cut fats out of the diet completely. Instead, aim to include a variety of healthy fats in your diet to ensure that you're getting all the benefits they have to offer.
